As a busy mom of three, I am constantly juggling a million moving parts. Between running my business, keeping up with the schedules of each of my children, and maintaining the functioning of the home, I am always on the lookout for ways to simplify my life and eliminate as much unpreparedness as possible.
In August of 2023, I gave birth to my third child, my first son, in the front seat of my car (that’s a blog for another day!). We all know that babies aren’t the most rational beings, so I do my best to keep my diaper bag stocked full of essentials at all times for all those on-the-go needs that pop up.
- Snacks
- Travel cup/ Water bottle
- Diapers/ Wipes
- Changing Pad
- Extra pair of clothes (warm and cold)
- Lotion, allergy medicine, diaper rash cream, sunscreen, bug spray
- Shirt for mo
- Handful of toys – keep in mind that there only needs to be 2-4 toys that stay in this bag so it’s exciting for the child to play with when out and about. At least 1-2 of these toys should be a quiet toy. (For example: a book or teething ring)
- Blanket
- Pacifier if the child takes one
- Grocery bags/ diaper bags to use for dirty diapers, trash, wet clothes, etc.
Now, a fully stocked diaper bag is of no use if it’s not brought with you. The key here is to always leave the bag in the car. The only reason the bag should come into your home is when refiling your supplies, and then immediately place it by the door to go out or back in the car.
Another key way to staying organized is by putting your items in the exact same pocket/ place every time. This will help locate what you need in a hurry and will also act as a trigger to remind you when you are out or low on something.
Diaper bags are meant to relieve stress and check off one more item from our busy minds. Keep it simple and keep it clean!
